Seeing our children happy is for many a parent, all they desire for their children. I believe God is not much different. He gives us the desires of our hearts. I have learned to be careful, however, regarding what I ask of God, because unlike many a parent today, Yahuwah, my heavenly Father, has a very different approach to gaining happiness for his children. God knows, that children must often learn obedience through the things they suffer and where necessary he will allow suffering in our lives, knowing the fruit of peace and joy it will bring in later life. Sometimes that simply involves giving us what our idolatrous flesh so strongly desires of him. Kind of like allowing your child who persistently wants to touch the hot plate, to actually let them have what they ask for.
My mother was a great influence in my life. Those who knew her, loved her, because she was kind and very loving to all who crossed her path and very generous too. She taught me to look up, because she believed in Jesus as her saviour. It was likely because of her prayers that I came to faith in Yashua in my early teens. Funny. At that time I had so disappointed my mother that she said, "God will never forgive you for what you have done to us." "No mom", I said. "You may not forgive me, but God will." He did and has forgiven me uncountable sins over the years, because when he asks us to forgive "70 times 7", he himself will do it. However, unlike my mother, who could seldom see wrong in me, apart from that one time, my heavenly Father, Yahuwah, has allowed suffering in my life that he knew was necessary. in order that he might burn out much that was unacceptable in a child of God. It is perhaps very important to mention that I particularly gave him permission to do that as a your boy. I knew I was strong willed, stubborn and sinful. I said: "God, I want to end up in heaven at the end of this life. Please do whatever you have to in order to get me there." I am glad I prayed that prayer. In scripture, it is called "the furnace of affliction". The only thing to do, when you are in it, is first repent of what got you there in the first place and then to patiently be still before almighty God and wait for him to deliver you. During that "furnace" experience you may cry out many times to God: "Father, how long?" But in dues season, if you do not give up, he will lift you to a new level of faith and life, which is much happier than the one you lived before. Hebrew 12:6 FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES. We should also do as the book of proverbs says: Proverbs 1:8-9 Listen, my child, to the instruction from your father, and do not forsake the teaching from your mother. 9 For they will be like an elegant garland on your head, and like pendants around your neck.
Sadly, my mother, did not allow my earthly father to discipline me, as he should have felt free to. I she had, my heavenly Father would have been spared the job. Many step parents fall into this trap. My mother fell into it for other reasons. Nevertheless, how wonderful it is to have a saviour that has allowed us the privilege to pray: Our Father, who lives in heaven, hallowed me thy name. There is no better Father in the universe.
